Cranberry Isles: Renaissance man remembered

The Cranberry Isles Fire and Rescue Service held CPR classes at the Firehouse on Great Cranberry Island Saturday, Feb. 23 with many interested parties attending. Thank you for all you do for our community to help keep us safe and informed. A luncheon was held for those attending at the Community Center with Mark Alley as chef.

It is with deep sadness that we say good bye to our friend and relative Herman Savage at the age of 80 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Herman worked for the Murch family at the old Hamor House for many years as Captain of the Hushai and caretaker of the property.

He was one of those people who could do anything: fix a car, take care of the plumbing, repair a boat, give you a haircut, install the electricity, read a story and be a good friend while doing all of it. Herman and his wife Connie were indeed soulmates and saw each other through many ups and down through their many years together. Herman leaves behind his wife Connie, his son Darren and his wife Michelle, beloved daughter Cassie, his sister Tish, two brothers Clayton and Arvard, his beautiful grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There will never be another Herman, a perfectionist as could be seen in anything he did. Good bye Uncle Herm, fair winds and following seas.

This note is from Lauren Gray: Thank you for all of my friends and neighbors who came out to learn about and provide feedback for my proposed aquaculture lease. I felt a lot of support from my community and appreciated that those who had thoughts, questions, or concerns were able to share them with me. Thank you for making the effort during your work day to attend.

“March bustles in on windy feet and sweeps my doorstep and my street. She washes and cleans with pounding rains, scrubbing the earth of winter stains. She shakes the grime from carpet green ’til naught but fresh new blades are seen. Then, house in order, all neat as a pin, she ushers gentle springtime in.” -Susan Reiner, “Spring Cleaning.”
