These two islands are truly a community. A family member on one of the islands had need of a bathtub seat, and someone from the other island sent one over.
Thursday night, Nov. 15th, was the successful Lobster Raffle fundraiser for the Islesford Neighborhood House Association.
Kaitlyn Duggan posted: “Congratulations to our Lobster Raffle winners, Bridget DuBois and Lynne Duggan! Thank you to everyone who participated in making donations toward our fundraiser. We raised $1265!! Woohoo! Thank you to the Cranberry Isles Fishermen’s Co-op for your support in making this happen and for covering the shipping costs! And thank you to Steve Philbrook, Ted Spurling and David Thomas, our local lobstermen, for donating the lobsters. Our community rocks!”
The Northeast Harbor Neighborhood House had a fundraising dinner to save Cori Alley’s Under Pressure. Foul weather hit, the mail boat did not cancel the afternoon run (or any other), the afternoon commuter boat ran, and other boats went over as well. Katelyn Damon invited people to bring a pair of dancing shoes. And wallets for the silent auction Under Pressure’s recovery/restoration is progressing: a new engine has been put in at Abel’s Boatyard and electronics are being donated as well.
Sharon Leckbee Daley was on the Sunbeam in Northeast Harbor Wednesday night. She posted her availability to give flu shots that evening. Stefanie Alley took her up on the invitation. Douglas Cornman joined Sharon and the Sunbeam crew Thursday morning; that afternoon saw the Sunbeam at Great Cranberry, where they offered good food (no surprise there!) and flu shots (which were not a pre-requisite for the cookies).
The Danforth Gallery at the University of Maine, Augusta, is showing mixed media portrait series by Kaitlyn Duggan’s mother, Martha Miller. They describe the exhibit called, “The Is of Lis,” as “larger than life. Miller works in collaboration with her daughter Lisbeth, and together they tell the story of living with a traumatic brain injury.” The show dates are Nov. 13 – Dec. 19.
Nov. 25th is a busy day for celebrations! Happy Birthday to Cari Alley and to Henry Mayer Austin-Fernald. Happy Anniversary to Barbara and Alden Hathaway.
