Cranberry Isles Food highlights Town Meeting

Cranberry Isles enjoyed temperatures nearing 45 on Monday, so there were no boat cancellations. Cindy Thomas baked a delicious milk cake for Tuesday’s library coffee hour. Ashley Bryan, Tom Powell, Lewis Powell, Jason Pickering, Lindsay Eysnogle, Marina Pickering, Jeff Pease, Barbara Caldwell-Pease, Mary Schuch and Malcolm Fernald were on hand to enjoy the treat and the conversation.

The library coffee hour takes place every Tuesday at the Islesford Neighborhood House Library, starting at 10 a.m. Special treats are provided by Cindy Thomas or a guest baker. Everyone is welcome.

Cindy and David Thomas traveled to Philadelphia over the weekend to be with their daughter, Rachel, for match day at her medical school. The Thomas’ learned Rachel would be continuing her work in Augusta. Congratulations to the family and best wishes to Rachel.

Cranberry Isles students were delighted to celebrate Pi Day on Thursday with pizza for lunch at the Ashley Bryan School.

On Saturday, March 16, townspeople from both islands gathered on Great Cranberry for the annual town meeting. The meeting took place at Great Cranberry Island Congregational Church. Fifth through eighth grade students of Cranberry Isles Schools joined the crowd for the morning portion of the meeting.

The day started with coffee and donuts, but a full agenda and careful discussion led to a lengthy session. At midday, Great Cranberry provided a hearty lunch of four types of submarine sandwiches, devilled eggs, tomato bisque and cookies for dessert. Cheerful yellow submarine décor, music and a crackling fire helped brighten everyone’s mood.

The entire agenda was covered and next years’ meeting date was scheduled before 5 p.m. Beal and Bunker provided a special boat for townspeople after the meeting.

The Freshstart program for smoking cessation, provided via telemedicine, is continuing at Islesford Neighborhood House on Tuesday evenings from 4 to 5:30 p.m., in the Ladies’ Parlor.

Remember open mic night Friday, March 22, at the Neighborhood House. Whether you come to perform or just to enjoy, you are certain to have a great time.

Happy birthday to Frances Blank, Gretchen Blank and Mandy Hicks on March 23, Dan Lief on March 26 and Steve Palmer on March 27.
