The Cranberry Isles experienced abundant rain and cool weather last week, but the weekend brought sunshine, and, on Sunday, temperatures above 80 degrees. More moderate temperatures are forecast for this coming weekend.
The Islesford Fire Department organized a drive-by parade for Islesford high school graduates Bea Amuso and Patrick Mocarsky. The parade started at 3 p.m., Monday, June 7. The route was from the firehouse, down Main and around Cross Road. Congratulations, graduates!
Congratulations also to Kariah Sumner and Grayson Frothingham who received their eighth–grade diplomas on Wednesday, June 9, at Longfellow School on Great Cranberry. The ceremony was set for 2 p.m. The program was held outdoors and masks were required. Students from both islands presented a celebratory play and their Invention Convention was on display. A family–sponsored cookout was scheduled at the Ladies Aide afterward.
In Cranberry House news, Bob Hudson will give a presentation on bees and beekeeping at Cranberry House Arts Center on Friday, June 11, at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, June 16, at 7 p.m., Phil Whitney will present a program of Cranberry Island historical slides at Cranberry House Art Center.
On a personal note, this is my last Cranberry Isles column. Frequent medical travel for a family member will make it difficult for me to provide the kind of coverage the islands deserve. Over the past three years, it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve my community and to work with the wonderful people at the Islander. My very best wishes to the new columnist!
Happy birthday to Cory Duggan and Cassie Savage on June 11. Happy birthday, on June 12, to Wanda Porter. On June 13, happy birthday wishes go to Isaac Krasnow and Barbara Hathaway. Happy birthday to Richard Beal on June 14. Happy birthday, on June 15, to Roy Hadlock. Happy birthday to Barbara Wendelken Bryant, Jacob Matthew Shaw Benson and Jim Gertmenian on June 16.
