Cranberry Isles: All things new

Holy cow, 2019! This Saturday, Jan. 5, is when sunrise goes back to 7:06 a.m. Jan. 21, it will rise before 7 a.m.

And the next four weeks include time for the next round of Dip of the Month. Get the suntan lotion out, Barb Fernald, Joy Sprague, Cindy Thomas, and Stefanie Alley. (Need a New Year’s Resolution? Newcomers are always welcome!) And this is the start of another year of legal adults born after 1999.

Frances and Cote Hadlock’s baby, Mark Oliver Hadlock, visited Islesford for the first time the week before Christmas, Wednesday night into Thursday. This was his first time ever at 10 weeks old! Very exciting for our family!

Birthdays: Melissa Amuso’s birthday is Jan. 4, followed by Mark Howard on Jan. 5. Yet again, Fritz and Robin Fernald share the 10th.

Jeri and Ted Spurling celebrate their wedding anniversary on Jan. 5, followed by Becca and Tom Powell on Jan. 8.

On Great Cranberry, happy birthday wishes to Liam Carroll Astbury on Jan. 15 and Averi Rose White on Jan. 16. On Jan. 19, we have two celebrations as Melanie Elyse Sanborn and Colby Watson Hicks share their special day. Let’s light the candles and celebrate this special day of your life. Happy birthday.

January has a long list of observances or holidays. Here are just a few to ponder during the cold month ahead: January is Bath Safety Month, National Hot Tea Month, National Skating Month, Walk and/or Train Your Pet Month, National Sunday Supper Month, National Soup Month and National Polka Music Month — just to name a few. Good luck choosing just one to celebrate during the month ahead.

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” — Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962). Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was an American political figure, diplomat and activist. She served as the First Lady of the United States from March 1933 to April 1945 during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office, making her the longest-serving First Lady of the United States.
