Cranberry Isles: 10K run in a turkey suit sets world record

A gale warning was in effect Monday evening through Tuesday, promising 40-45 knot gusts and 6- to 9foot seas for the Cranberry Isles. These gale warnings have been weekly visitors, it seems, but beautiful, sunny days have occurred most weekends. This past Sunday was another gorgeous day with temperatures between 51 and 35 degrees, ending with a large full moon over waters colored pink and blue by the setting sun.

On Sunday evening, several people were seen building a lobster trap Christmas tree in Town Field near the harbor on Islesford. School children will be decorating the tree using lobster buoys and other materials for this first annual Trap Tree. What could be a more perfect seasonal sign for our islands?

Wreaths ordered from The Ladies Aid should start arriving on Dec1, but many people have already put up their holiday lights. Several families have put up their Christmas trees, too.

On Sunday, Islesford Congregational Church began streaming their weekly services on their Facebook Page. Pastor Tom Powell says, “Head on over there at 10 a.m. on Sundays to join in live!” The service should be saved on the page for later viewing as well.

Cranberry Isles residents were saddened to say goodbye to longtime summer resident Kitty Pierson. After suffering a recent fall, 91year-old Kitty passed peacefully on Tuesday, Nov24, surrounded by friends and family at home. She is survived by her husband Dick. Kitty Pierson was a beloved, active member of the community and will be sorely missed.

The Ladies Aid Thanksgiving Pie Fest was a great success! Thirty pies were gifted and delivered to Island residents, says Colleen Bunker, “with the hope that the gesture, in turn, would be passed on this holiday season.” Colleen’s announcement included gratitude for members who worked diligently to make the event happen, including Barbara MyersJoe ConnellMark AlleyPhilippe DonaldMax Farhi and Kariah Sumner.

On Thanksgiving Day, on Great Cranberry, Molly Seidel’s 34:40 10K run in a turkey suit set a world record. Congratulations to Molly and everyone involved in the event. Amazing work!

Happy birthday to Erin Fernald Gray on Dec. 3. Happy birthday, on Dec. 6, to Grace Houghton and Jeanne Smith. On Dec7, happy birthday to Eliza Greenman. Happy birthday to Christa Porcaro on Dec. 8. On Dec. 9, happy birthday to Ruth Westphal.
