Cranberry House was booootiful!

On the evening of Friday, Oct. 24, children and parents gathered at the Cranberry House for a movie, a bit of bobbing for apples and other games. Awesome treats and great decorations added to the event. Thank you to Phil and Karin Whitney and all who organized this seasonal event for the kids. FYI … the GCI children will be trick or treating this year. A notice will be posted for time and number of ghoulish visitors you may expect. Happy Halloween, all.

Beautician Kelly Thurlow of Kel’s Kutz in Cherryfield had planned on making her monthly trip to GCI on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when the recent Nor’easter changed her plans. By the time you read this, the residents of Cranberry should be neatly coiffed and ready for the holidays, as she rescheduled her visit to Wednesday the 29. Thank you, Kelly, for making these trips to the island.

Foul weather has arrived. The commuter boat and mailboat cancelled trips this past week. It’s time to stock up the winter reserve cupboard and time to get an overnight bag tucked away in the car.

The Ashley Bryan School Cross Country Team and the rest of the school kids who wanted to run had a meet on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Swans Island. Everyone enjoyed the day, and ABS was happy to win the meet.

Sally Rowan and Skip Stevens headed to Baltimore and spent a couple of nights at Dedi Whitaker‘s. Skip was there for time on campus at Coppin State, meeting with students in person instead of the usual online/phone route and having time for meetings with faculty.

Jim Wilmerding missed being a birthday boy for Halloween. His birthday is the day before, Oct. 30. Happy birthday, Jim! Enjoy the extended version.

The porch enclosure has been attached to the Cranberry Island Post Office in preparation for the inevitable winter weather ahead. This is usually an indication that fall has fallen by the wayside … find your shovels folks.

The new windows have been installed in the older section of the Community Center on Great Cranberry Island. Thank you to all who helped this project become a reality and to Mike Westphal and his crew for a job well done. A Community Thanksgiving will be held at the center this year. More information regarding this island gathering will follow in future articles. It will be a good chance to try out those new windows!
