MOUNT DESERT — The First Friday Coffeehouse at the Northeast Harbor Library opens its 14th season on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. As always, the evening starts with an open mic session, hosted by Blue Gene. All performing artists are welcome. To participate, sign in on the clipboard near the entrance. Each performer has about 10 minutes at the microphone. At 7:45 p.m., there is a break, and at 8 p.m., the featured program begins.
This November, the First Friday Coffeehouse will feature the Happy Town Band, led by Brian Estes. Estes teaches art in the middle school in Brewer. When he and his wife and two daughters moved from an apartment complex in Orrington where they barely knew their neighbors to a near wilderness area outside Ellsworth, they expected to be on their own. Instead they found friendly people who take the time to visit and sit around making music in each other’s living rooms.
The band includes Brian Estes, Melissa Estes, Raeleen Erskine, Shawn Mercer and sometimes Trevor Seip.
The First Friday Coffeehouse is free of charge, though donations are accepted. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the evening.
