MOUNT DESERT — The Rev. Joseph Francis Cistone has been appointed new pastor of The United Church of Christ (UCC) of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor.

According to search committee Chair Anna Carr, “the committee unanimously recommended Rev. Cistone … . We believe Joe is the ideal person to help us achieve the dreams and aspirations of our diverse faith community.”

Cistone said, “I am humbled and honored to accept a call to walk alongside this remarkable faith community as we build community, nourish spiritual life, and work for justice and peace in Mount Desert and around the world.”

In addition to his new role with the congregation, Cistone will continue his 15 year service as the chief executive of International Partners in Mission, whose executive officers relocated to Mount Desert Island in 2011, and as a lecturer in social ethics at Yale Divinity School. “Working together in these three distinct but complementary settings provides exciting new possibilities for the mission and ministry of our congregation on MDI,” said Cistone.
