Carlson and Douty to marry



The highly anticipated wedding news for Donald and Marsha has arrived. Marsha writes, “Donald Carlson of Swans Island and Marsha Douty of Buchanan, N.Y, are pleased to announce their upcoming marriage on June 13. The ceremony will be held at 12 noon at the Thomaston Baptist Church, 212 Main St. [Route 1], Thomaston, with Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Wayne and Donald graduated together from MDI High School. Following the ceremony, there will be a lunch reception in the church fellowship room. Donald is the son of the late Sheldon and Betty Carlson of Swans Island, and Marsha is the daughter of the late Dr. Marshall H. and Marjory Wood of Ossining, N.Y., and the widow of Rev. Robert W. Douty. Following their honeymoon, which will be a motor trip visiting historical sites around New England, the couple will host an island reception from 6-9 p.m. on June 27 at the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Swans Island. Catering this event will be the “Smith Gang.” Flowers will be from Dreamweavers, and there’ll be dancing with the Boogie Buddies. Donald is the owner/partner of the Mill Pond Trap Shop. Marsha is a retired educator from the Hendrick Hudson School District in Montrose, N.Y. The couple will make their home on Swans Island.”

Congratulations to the following Mount Desert Island High School students for making the third quarter honor roll: senior Will Smith (honors); junior Jacob LeMoine (high honors); sophomores Ezra Johnson, Mary Joy and Amara Joyce (honors); and freshmen Emily Banks, Andrew Boisvert and Dori LeMoine (honors).

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Geraldine Elva Turner, who passed away on April 28 in Bar Harbor. She lived most of her life on Swans Island and will be missed by many.
