Captain Morehouse is back

Welcome back to Captain Bob Morehouse. We’ve missed you, and it’s good to see you up in the pilot house again.

If you missed it this summer at the lighthouse, or even if you enjoyed it many times, you have another opportunity to view the “Keep Calm and Carry On: Island Life During WWII” exhibit. The exhibit includes photos, letters and newspaper articles that tell about the service of more than 50 Swans Islanders enlisted in the Armed Forces during WWII and the lives of those they left behind. Come visit the library during open hours and share the stories. Many thanks go to all those who have contributed to this fantastic exhibit, especially Bev McAloon and Fran Chetwynd.

Clay Savage invites us to attend the last two of three evenings of revivals with a dynamic guest speaker who is a 7-time cancer survivor. The music will be led by a former Nazarene minister who will have you tapping your toes and enjoying a special message. Mark your calendars for these final two evenings, each beginning at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Baptist church, and Friday, Oct. 30, at the Church of God. All are welcome!

Meredith Creswell thanks all who joined together for a wonderful day of memories, music and worship at the 2015 Advent Church Homecoming Celebration. Congratulations to Dot Barnes and Martha Reed who were honored at this event for their years of service to God and to the AC Church.

Brandi Morang shares with us that the Advent and Baptist Churches begin this year’s Sunday School program on Nov. 1 and continue every Sunday at the Baptist Church from 10:15-11 a.m. The teachers are Lesley Ranquist and Brandi Morang, and there will be weekly Bible verses/stories, songs and fun crafts using the “Roots of Faith” material. Brandi tells us, “I’m having so much fun planning Sunday school. I look forward to meeting parents, grandparents, family, friends and of course, the children! If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me at 667-8208 or Lesley Ranquist.”

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Patrick Edward McCarthy, who passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Four of Patrick’s siblings and their families – Mary Catherine McCarthy Hoffman, Margot McCarthy Anderson, John Wallace McCarthy Jr. and Michael Andrew McCarthy – are beloved members of our Swans Island community.

Our thoughts are also with family and friends of William C. Donley Jr., who passed away on Oct. 16 after an extended illness.

Gwen May reminds us that the Referendum Elections are held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. in the Swans Island Town Office.

Leah Staples informs us that adult pick-up basketball already has started this year and continues each Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. High-schoolers and adults are welcome to come to the school gymnasium for some healthy Friday-night fun.

Happy belated birthday to Bob Dumas, Joe Boisvert, Wesley Staples II, Jack, Cole Carroll Staples, Barbara Sawyer, Eric Scott Staples, Vanessa May, Janice Staples, and my love, Karl Haller. Happy birthday to Benjamin Moses Smith, Garrett LeMoine, Kathleen LeMoine, Jeanne Joyce, Jordan Gardner, Josh Applin, Kyleigh Elizabeth Kitchen and Erik Greenlaw.
