Boardwalk postponed

MOUNT DESERT — The resumption of a public hearing on developer Shep Harris’ plan to build a boardwalk over a marsh to Echo Lake, scheduled for April 20, was postponed at Harris’s request. It has not been rescheduled.

Harris has applied to the Planning Board for a permit to build a 150-foot boardwalk across a lot owned by his son, Parker, so that residents of his Lakeside II and III subdivisions can carry kayaks and canoes to the lake. A number of nearby property owners have expressed opposition. Several attended the opening session of the public hearing March 9.

Harris’ attorney, Jonathan Harris, said in an April 15 email to Code Enforcement Officer Kim Keene that he was requesting postponement of the hearing because “we believe an alternate location for the boardwalk will better address some of the concerns raised by the Planning Board and the neighborhood opposition group.”
