BAR HARBOR — A group of young adults with Bike & Build Inc., a national non-profit committed to affordable housing, are set to bicycle 850 miles from here to New York City to raise money for affordable housing. The riders plan to stay at the Mount Desert Island YMCA to prepare for their ride, departing to Bath on July 9.
“We are deeply proud that Bike & Build has 34 riders this year who are so committed to the affordable housing cause that they are willing to raise much-needed funds and spend three weeks of their summer biking across New England,” said Justin Villere, operations director for the organization.
The group will be traveling for three weeks and will help to build affordable housing in five locations: Portland, Maine, Salem and Nantucket, Mass., New Haven, Conn., and New York. In order to participate in the trip, each rider raised at least $2,250 to help fund the trip costs and affordable housing efforts nationwide.
