Deputy Rob Morang informs us that he is “taking a carload of kids to an ATV Safety Course in Bucksport on Saturday, April 9. The course is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll leave on the 6:45 a.m. ferry and return on the last ferry. There is no fee for the course, and assistance with ferry tickets is available. I’ll provide lunch to the children. This course is required for any child from age 10-16 to drive an ATV on anyone else’s property.” There are spaces left for this, so please contact him immediately if you wish to attend this course.
Lacey Schlag invites us to participate in, as participant or spectator, another eighth-grade class trip fundraiser. Come to the Swans Island School gymnasium on Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m. for a rousing Dodgeball tournament that benefits our kids. Participant rules are six players per team, sixth-grade through adult, $15 per player and registration is at 5:30 p.m., with games starting at 6 p.m.
Gwen May has an interesting proposal for our high school students: “Are there high schoolers on the island who need community service before your graduation and would be interested in doing something for the Historical Society? We’d be willing to teach any of you to do scanning, transcribing interviews, cataloging on the computer, helping to identify photos (or at least writing the info down as it is fed to you), etc. Contact me at home or at the town office if you are interested. We may find more things for you that aren’t listed.”
Take a break to enjoy Christine Dentremont’s ethereal hanging jellyfish display in the library. Just walk through the doors and look up; I guarantee you will be enticed to sit for a spell while enjoying it.
Happy birthday to Candis Joyce, Seth Gordon Joy, Theo May, Isabella Joyce, Anna Carr, Bill Banks Jr., Theodore L. Turner, Steve Greenlaw, Kenny LeMoine Jr., Sharon Johnson, Leonard M. May II, Leah Marie Ranquist, Gabriella Ruth Joy and Meredith Creswell.
