SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Southwest Harbor Public Library in conjunction with Acadia Family Center will offer a free screening of “The Hungry Heart” on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 pm. The film will be shown in the Holmes Room at the Library.
This hard-hitting documentary focuses on the tragic impact of prescription opiate abuse and addiction. Filmed in small-town Vermont, “The Hungry Heart” presents the personal stories of addicts, both young and old, working to recover their lives. While the stories are often painful, we see the compassionate treatment provided by a local pediatrician and the tremendous courage of the people who share their stories of recovery and change.
The film will be followed by an open discussion led by Dr. Daniel Johnson, executive director of Acadia Family Center. The Acadia Family Center provides prevention, education and outpatient services for adolescents, adults and families affected by substance abuse, chemical dependency and related mental health disorders.
Space is limited. For more information or to reserve your spot, call the library at 244-7065.
