ACADIA NAT’L PARK — Park officials are seeking public input as they start working on a comprehensive transportation plan. The final plan could govern everything from where visitors are allowed to park to tour bus limits to ferry service proposals.
Public workshops will be held next week in Bar Harbor and Prospect Harbor. The Bar Harbor workshop will be Thursday, June 4, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Mount Desert Island High School library.
The transportation plan will focus on traffic and parking issues. Park Superintendent Sheridan Steele said a comprehensive plan is needed because “concentrated traffic creates public safety issues, severe congestion and crowding, reduced quality of visitor experiences, impacts on the road systems, impacts on the park’s natural and cultural resources and pressures on the efficiency and sustainability of park operations.”
Another set of public workshops on the park’s transportation plan is scheduled for July 29 and 30.
