SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Dr. Bert Zbar will be at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Tuesday, July 19, from 3-4 p.m. to discuss the mission and accomplishments of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The NIH is a remarkable government institution dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our citizens. In spite of its importance to public health, the NIH is not well known. Zbar’s talk will explain exactly what the NIH does and what type of patients are seen there. He also will give examples of research accomplishments.
Zbar is a physician-scientist who has worked at the National Cancer Institute for almost 50 years. He was trained as an internist and medical oncologist. His research is focused on inherited susceptibility to cancer, particularly inherited susceptibility to kidney cancer. He is a member of a large team of physicians and scientists who study urologic cancers.
This is the first part of a three-part presentation geared to health questions and concerns. Call the library at 244-7065.
