SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Dr. Bert Zbar will discuss what has been learned from studying inherited cancer when he visits the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 3-4 p.m.
The susceptibility to cancer can sometimes be inherited. Although inherited cancers are infrequent, their study has provided valuable information for cancer diagnosis and treatment. This talk will describe the characteristics of inherited cancers with a focus on learning how to detect inherited susceptibility. Inherited susceptibility to breast and ovarian cancers will be emphasized.
Zbar is a physician-scientist who has worked at the National Cancer Institute for almost 50 years. He was trained as an internist and medical oncologist. His research is focused on inherited susceptibility to cancer, particularly inherited susceptibility to kidney cancer. He is a member of a large team of physicians and scientists who study urologic cancers.
This is the last of a three-part presentation geared to health questions and concerns. Call the library at 244-7065.
