BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island homeowners, landlords and renters can now sign up for low-cost, energy-saving window inserts from the WindowDressers Community Build Program on MDI.

The volunteer-made interior storm window inserts warm homes and help people save money on heating.

WindowDressers is a Rockland based nonprofit organization.

This year’s MDI Community Build is possible through volunteer efforts and partnerships with the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, Somesville Union Meeting House, College of the Atlantic, Harbor House and The Neighborhood House.

The cost of inserts is based on the size of the window and the choice of finish (natural pine or white).

Volunteers will be measuring windows during April. The inserts will be produced in October. The number of homes is limited to about 30.
