Whiskey theft suspect nabbed



TRENTON — A Sullivan man who allegedly tried Friday to shoplift a bottle of Jack Daniels from the Trenton Marketplace was arrested after an employee stopped him outside the store.

Justin Kane, 21, was arrested by Deputy Corey Bagley on a Class C theft charge and taken to the Hancock County Jail. The charge was elevated to the felony level due to Kane’s prior convictions, according to Bagley.

An Ellsworth woman was summonsed March 29 after state police found a parked unoccupied vehicle in a travel lane on the Oak Point Road.

Trooper David Barnard and Sgt. Jason Sattler found the vehicle the previous day after getting a report of a stopped vehicle with a flat tire and a man and woman arguing. As a result of their investigation, Alyssa Powell, 27, was charged with operating after suspension.

The sheriff’s department responded March 30 to a report of a suspicious male walking along Route 3. The person was located, and it was determined he was doing nothing wrong.

Bar Harbor

Police are investigating the theft of cash from Mount Desert Island High School. Police were notified Friday of the missing money, which was taken from an administrative office. Lt. David Kerns said there is a suspect and that the theft might be related to other missing money at the school.

Nicholas Beal, 25, of Ellsworth was arrested Friday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court. Beal also was charged with operating without a license. The charges followed a traffic stop.

A table saw was reported stolen Friday.

Kim Chapman, 59, of Bar Harbor was summonsed March 30 on a theft charge following a police investigation. According to police, Chapman allegedly shoplifted food items from Hannaford supermarket.

No injuries were reported in a March 30 accident at the intersection of the Crooked Road and Norway Drive.

Jennifer Aiguier, 35, of Brewer was eastbound on Norway Drive and reportedly failed to see a vehicle entering the intersection from the Crooked Road. Aiguier’s 2005 Toyota was struck broadside by a 2006 Dodge driven by James McKay, 55, of Bar Harbor.

A 2013 Toyota driven by David Dupray, 67, of Bangor hit a utility pole March 30 on Greeley Avenue.

Mount Desert

A Bar Harbor man who crashed his vehicle Monday evening on the Indian Point Road was arrested for alleged drunken driving.

Richard Burne, 53, was driving a 1981 International Scout that left the road and crashed into the woods. Burne was arrested on charges of operating while under the influence (OUI), operating after suspension and operating beyond license restrictions.

Burne suffered a head injury and was cleared medically at a hospital before being booked into the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth.

A woman was warned Friday for trespassing at an Indian Point Road construction site after a caretaker complained to police.

Vincent Abbott, 43, of Mount Desert was arrested Sunday on three outstanding warrants charging him with unpaid fines.

Southwest Harbor

Police arrested a Trenton man March 29 on a warrant after spotting him walking along Route 102.

Russell Crossman, 37, was arrested on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court. He was taken to the Hancock County Jail.

A traffic stop Friday ended with a summons for a Lamoine man.

Jason McMillan, 21, was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Rina Grierson, 39, of Tremont was summonsed March 28 on a charge of operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
