Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA), along with Bar Harbor Police, firefighters and hazardous materials experts from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection execute a search warrant at a house at 169 Gilbert Farm Road on Wednesday in response to reports of a possible illegal methamphetamine operation. According to the town’s property tax records the residence is owned by Joy Levesque of Bar Harbor.

Southwest Harbor firefighters clean up after a backhoe loader caught fire Monday near the intersection of the Herrick and Clark Point Roads. The operator, Colton Sanborn of John Goodwin Jr. Construction, was able to extinguish the fire by throwing snow onto the motor. Firefighters said they believe the hot engine of the loader ignited oil leaking from a filter.

Snow drifts more than ten feet high have built up in the fully-enclosed courtyard at Mount Desert Island High School this winter. The only way to remove any snow from that area would be to carry it through the halls of the building.

The work of about 50 women artists is on display at the Southwest Harbor Public Library as part of the library’s annual Women’s History Month celebration.
