Weatherizing is subject of series of programs islandwide

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A Climate to Thrive will present a series of Weatherize MDI informational events in all four MDI towns to help residents learn about making their homes more energy efficient and comfortable, and the associated costs and benefits.

Weatherize MDI workshops will be held at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 5:30-7 p.m., at the Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Tremont Town Office on Thursday, March 1, from 6:30-8 p.m., and at the Northeast Harbor Library on Tuesday, March 6, from 5:30-7 p.m.

Through Weatherize MDI, New England Energy Consulting will offer free energy consultations on air sealing, insulation and energy efficient heating units and water heaters. They also will make it easy to get substantial rebates and low-interest financing through Efficiency Maine. Families who receive heating assistance or live in mobile homes can get up to $1,000 of insulation for $50, a fee that will be offset by Weatherize sponsors, including First National Bank.

New England Energy Consulting’s owners, Mark and Dawna Burnett, have a wealth of knowledge and experience with weatherization, energy efficiency and environmental practices.

Preventing energy waste is the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to address climate change. Basic air sealing alone can save 10 to 15 percent, paying for itself in a year or two. In addition to reducing energy bills, weatherization reduces asthma and improves your health in the process, according to the U.S. Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.

Visit Contracts must be signed by the end of April to get the special pricing.
