MARBLEHEAD, Mass. — The Mount Desert Island High School (MDIHS) varsity sailing team competed in its first regatta of the season this past Sunday. Marblehead High School hosted MDIHS and George Stevens Academy (GSA) during a day of team racing in the Marblehead Invitational at the Pleon Yacht Club in Marblehead, Mass.
The Marblehead Magicians won overall with 37 points, followed by the GSA Eagles with 43 points and the MDI Trojans with 46 points.
The Trojans, led by head coach John Macauley, fielded eight sailors in two divisions with three races each. MDI’s A division came out with a win over Marblehead.

Powered by easterly winds at four to seven knots, MDI A division skipper Alec Fisichella and crew Joey Minotulo in boat one and skipper Lucas Ingebritson and crew Nate Ingebritson in boat two tied the Marblehead A rotation on points, but won in a tiebreaker with a higher amount of first-place finishes.
Racing in the B division were skipper Nate Philbrook and crew Jacob Peabody and skipper Naomi Welch and crew Sofie Dowling.
MDI’s next regatta is set for Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, in Marion, Mass., hosted by Tabor Academy.
