Stormy and warm

ELLSWORTH — A mild but stormy winter is predicted by the “Gulf of Maine Region Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook.”

The “Outlook,” published four times each year, incorporates meteorological data from both the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its counterpart in the north, Environment Canada. It is the product of an ongoing collaboration between the two agencies sparked by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment, a regional partnership founded 25 years ago in an effort to sustain the environmental health of the Gulf of Maine and its watershed.

Through February, both Environment Canada and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center are calling for an increased chance of above-normal temperatures for the Gulf of Maine region.
