TREMONT — Local boatbuilder and historian Ralph W. Stanley and illustrator and publisher Ted Walsh are set to discuss Friendship sloops at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library on Friday, July 10, at 4:30 p.m.
There are more than 12 Friendship sloops with a homeport on or near Mount Desert Island. Stanley and Hughes recent book, “Lasting Friendships, A Century of Friendship Sloops,” is a collaboration with the Friendship Sloop Society. The book chronicles the history of the boat and catalogs the surviving sloops. Their talk will focus on why the Friendship sloop has survived and why it still has such a loyal following today.
