SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The next session of the Mount Desert Island Community Sailing Center’s adult beginners’ sailing course is set to begin Aug. 4.
The class meets six times, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m., and aims to qualify each student to sail (skipper) a boat independently. Each meeting begins with a classroom session before going out on the water with one instructor and two students per boat.
Once qualified to skipper independently, students are eligible to take the center’s boats during open sailing times.
Private lessons, group sails and a women’s sailing club are also offered. Contact the center at 244-7905 or mdisailing.org.
