MOUNT DESERT — Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County will host the 19th annual Hospice Regatta of Maine on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, in and around Mount Desert Island’s Great Harbor.

Friday will feature a series of races for Luders 16 and Bulleye-class sloops organized by the Southwest Harbor Fleet and a Junior Regatta in “turbo” 420 dinghies sponsored jointly by the MDI Community Sailing Center and the Northeast Harbor Sailing School. Racing is slated to get under way at 1:15 p.m.

On Saturday, the Northeast Harbor Fleet will host races for both its International One-Design fleet and for larger cruising sailboats.

The cruising event is slated to get under way at 1 p.m. and features a pursuit race around the Cranberry Islands that is open to all keelboats at least 20 feet in length. The two-race IOD event starts at 1:30 p.m. and is part of the yacht club’s Rockefeller Trophy July series of races.

This year, event sponsors will have the opportunity to view the races on the water aboard the Maine Sea Coast Mission’s Sunbeam. The Hospice Regatta Rendezvous cocktail party will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Morris Yachts boatyard in Northeast Harbor and is open to the public.

Sponsorships with race-viewing opportunities, including a champagne lunch and narrated tour, start at $250. Tickets to the Rendezvous are $50. The dockside party at Morris Yachts will feature music by The Jazz Collective and hors d’oeuvres by Chipper’s Restaurant.

Major sponsors for the Hospice Regatta of Maine include The Gooding Family Foundation, Acadia Trust, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Bangor Daily News, Charles Butt, Hospice Education Institute, Morris Yachts, Points East, Star 97.7 and A.G.A. Correa & Son Jewelers.
