MDI talent heads to national competition

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA — Two top sailors who learned the ropes of the sport on Mount Desert Island are headed to a nationwide competition in coming weeks.

Tyler Steel, a senior at Suny Maritimes College, and Maggie Bacon, a junior at Tufts University, will be among students representing the best sailing programs in the country in the 2013 Spring College Sailing National Championships this May.

The national event takes place in waters near the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club.
