HANCOCK — R.E. Thomas Marine Hardware Inc., tucked away behind Tideway Market on Route 1, broke ground July 16, on a new, 3,800-square-foot addition onto the back of the building. The company needs more manufacturing space and room to install cranes to handle increasingly larger parts.
Thomas said the hardware his company makes is still solid bronze, but is much more robust.
R.E. Thomas’s products include shaft bearings, stern bearings, dripless shaft seals, stuffing boxes, rudder ports, propeller shafts and couplings, rope/line cutters, skeg bearings, shaft tubes, cutless bearings, bronze fittings and Duramax packing material.
The products have resonated with customers, who today include, among many others, The Hinckley Co., Morris Yachts, Wesmac Custom Boats, S.W. Boatworks, Kennedy Marine Engineering, Billings Diesel & Marine, Henry Abel & Co., H&H Marine and Brooklin Boat Yard.
