BUCKSPORT — The International Maritime Film Festival has announced the films selected for showing at the upcoming three-day event.
Sponsored jointly by WoodenBoat magazine and Northeast Historic Film, the inaugural festival is scheduled for Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the Alamo Theatre in downtown Bucksport.
Winner of the grand prize in the short films category – films of less than 40 minutes – was “The Long Haul” from the United Kingdom. The film follows one woman as she heads to sea on a fishing boat.
Grand prize winner in the feature film category is “The Weekend Sailor” from Mexico.
Two films also won awards as part of the “Spotlight” series: “Vanishing Sail,” documenting the preservation of the dying art of wooden boatbuilding on the Caribbean island of Carriacou; and “The Restorer’s Journey,” a cinematic portrait of Jon Wilson, founder of WoodenBoat, who, the film says, “inspired generations of boat builders, boat owners and boat dreamers.”
