Harbormaster resigns

TREMONT — The town’s harbormaster abruptly resigned Tuesday after less than two years on the job.

Greg Dow became the town’s harbormaster in June 2013. His resignation letter gave no reason for his decision, but interim Town Manager Dana Reed said Dow took another job.

“He’s moving on to work for a marine contractor,” Reed said.

Selectmen on Tuesday night voted 4-0 to accept the resignation.

“I hate to see the town lose someone like Greg Dow,” selectman Chris Eaton said. “He’s put his heart and soul into it.”

Dow’s departure leaves the town without a harbormaster at a crucial time of the year. Fishermen already are gearing up for the upcoming season.

“We want to make sure we’re ready for them,” Reed said.

Reed acknowledged that being a harbormaster can be difficult.

“It’s a tough job,” he said. “I give Greg credit for sticking around as long as he did.”

Selectmen plan to address the situation at a meeting Monday. In the meantime, the public works crew will be overseeing operations on the town’s waterfront, Reed said.
