BAR HARBOR — Harbormaster Charlie Phippen and the Harbor Committee here worked this fall with the commercial lobster fishermen who use the town pier on a new, stronger hoist for moving lobsters, bait and traps onto and off of their boats.
The fishermen donated the hoist to the town, hiring Frenchman Bay Boating Company to build and install it. Harbor Committee Chairman Jon Carter collected payments from fishermen to cover the cost. The committee is set to estimate maintenance costs, Carter told the Town Council Oct. 20. They may recommend a new fee, similar to current skiff and mooring fees, to pay for upkeep of the hoist, he said.
