PORTLAND — Captain Michael A. Baroody assumed the duties and responsibilities as commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England from Captain Brian S. Gilda during a change-of-command ceremony on Thursday, June 17.
Rear Admiral Linda L. Fagan, commander of the 1st Coast Guard District, presided over the ceremony, a time-honored military tradition which formally represents the complete transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one leader to the next.
Baroody reported to Coast Guard Sector Northern New England after a transfer from Sector Houston-Galveston, where he served as the deputy commander.
Following the change of command ceremony, Fagan awarded a Meritorious Service Medal to Gilda. Next, Gilda will report as the chief of prevention for the 13th Coast Guard District comprising the Pacific Northwest. It is the gateway to the North Pacific and Alaska.
