SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Coast Guard responded to Sutton Island on July 15 when a passing vessel reported an unmanned and adrift Boston Whaler just before 8 a.m. The interior of the vessel and outboard motor appeared to have been burned in a fire.
“We issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast over the radio and launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from the Station in Southwest Harbor,” Lt. Scott McCann said. “Fortunately, we were able to eventually track down the owner, who confirmed they hadn’t been using the boat. We towed the boat back to his mooring ball just north of Sutton Island.”
No pollution was noted.
