Water plant is back online

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The water treatment plant again is fully operational and customers of the public water system no longer are being asked to reduce consumption.

Steve Kenney, manager of the Southwest Harbor Water and Sewer District, said repairs at the plant had been completed and that the plant was operating normally at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A pipe carrying water from the district’s water source, Long Pond, broke inside the facility late Monday afternoon.

To keep customers supplied with water, the district hired a trucking company which used 8,000-gallong tankers to transport water from Bar Harbor to the Southwest Harbor treatment plant.
