Two arrested in Ellsworth crack bust

ELLSWORTH — Maine Drug Enforcement agents arrested two men on Myrick Street Jan. 16, following an undercover investigation into the sale of crack cocaine.

Frankie Montero, 34, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, and Joshua Kane, 25, of Ellsworth were each arrested on a charge of Class A aggravated drug trafficking (crack), said MDEA Commander Peter Arno.

The two men were arrested at 8 p.m. After the arrests, the MDEA’s Downeast Task Force in Ellsworth executed a search warrant at an apartment at 153 State St.

“The case involved the recent undercover purchase of suspected crack cocaine from this apartment,” Arno said. “Since a 4-month-old child was present in the apartment at the time of the purchase, agents decided to expedite the investigation in order help protect the interests of the child.”

The charge was elevated to a Class A offense because of the presence of the baby in the apartment at the time of the alleged trafficking.

Police seized approximately $7,000 in suspected drug proceeds, along with other evidence of drug trafficking from the State Street apartment, Arno said.

Authorities contacted the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective Service Tuesday night about the baby since the baby and mother were present in the apartment when the search was executed, Arno said.
