BAR HARBOR — The town’s transfer station’s hours are set to change June 1, following a town council vote last week.
“One of the ways [proposed] to cut $12,000 out of budget was to cut hours, public works director Chip Reeves told councilors. Reeves’ staff identified Sunday and Thursday afternoons as having limited use.
Council Chair Gary Friedmann remarked that the question has been on Polco, the town’s online survey, and 58 percent of survey participants approved closing on Sundays.
Councilors voted to decrease transfer station hours by closing Sunday, and Thursday afternoons. The vote was 5-1, with Friedmann, Erin Cough, Judie Noonan, Matthew Hochman, and Joe Minutolo in favor, and Stephen Coston opposed. Councilor Paul Paradis was absent.
