Tower test conducted

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A visibility study requested by the Federal Communications Commission and Acadia National Park took place at the proposed site for a planned new 195-foot cell tower on Buttermilk Brook Road Tuesday.

From 8 a.m. to noon a 4-foot-6-inch diameter red balloon filled with helium was flown at the proposed site and height in order for photos to be taken to determine sight impact on historic locations, including the national park.

Friends of Acadia posted an advocacy alert on its Facebook page and website, asking member to weigh in to protect the national park’s viewshed.

The proposed tower has already been approved by the town’s planning board and property owner Kenneth Hutchins has already signed a lease with BRT Group LLC of Boca Raton, Fla. for the project.
