
BOXES OF PLENTY … Just in time for Thanksgiving, students from Mount Desert Elementary School are among the community volunteers who packed boxes of food for island families on Monday at the Congregational Church in Bar Harbor. The annual event is a collaborative effort of the Bar Harbor and Westside food pantries, grocery stores, schools, churches and volunteer organizations. All of the food is donated.

BENEVOLENT BEARDS … Members of the Bar Harbor Police Department have committed to a “No-Shave November.” They’re raising money for Home Base, an organization that works to help returning military service members struggling with post-traumatic stress or other challenges. ROTARY REVELRY … Mary and Jim Mroch get into the spirit at last year’s Bar Harbor (MDI) Rotary Club annual holiday party and auction. This year’s party will be held at the Criterion Theatre Dec. 5 from 5-7 p.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit the theatre. The event is open to the public and all are invited to attend. DETOUR TO END … The Maine Department of Transportation announced Monday that two-way traffic on Route 3 will resume before the Thanksgiving weekend begins, including the stretch from West Street to Mount Desert Street.
