OUR NEW TURF … Students of Pemetic Elementary School were the first to try out the new equipment on the nearly completed playground on Wednesday morning. Swings will be installed next week to complete the project that was funded both by the town and private donations. Dani Piquette-Kelly, who worked for three years on the project, spoke at the opening ceremony and was given the honor of cutting the ribbon.

SAFE STREET … Contractors for the Maine Department of Transportation installed guardrails Nov. 8 on Route 3 in Bar Harbor along The Bluffs. The one-way detour loop in place for the road project, MDOT representatives said, will likely remain in place at least until the end of the month, but plans are weather-dependent.

RAINY MORNING RUN … The weather did not dampen spirits at the annual Early Bird Pajama Sale and Bed Races Saturday morning. Members of the Geddy’s team approach the final leg of the race, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. The Bar Harbor Inn team won this year’s race, unseating five-time winners R.M. Flagg Company of Bangor. The event is organized by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce.

SPEAKING OUT … Indivisible MDI organized a rally at the Bar Harbor Town Pier Saturday as part a nationwide protest of the appointment of Matthew Whitaker as Acting U.S. Attorney General. Participants argued Senate confirmation is required for the cabinet-level position and they demanded the Mueller investigation into the 2016 election be protected. Sister rallies were held in Rockland, Portland, Farmington and Kittery.
