Sutherland is Bar Harbor’s new town manager

BAR HARBOR — Members of the Town Council unanimously selected Kevin Sutherland on Tuesday to be Bar Harbor’s next town manager.

Sutherland was given a three-year contract and will begin the job on Jan. 3, replacing Cornell Knight, who announced in August his intent to step down after 8 years on the job. Knight’s last day will be Jan. 2.

Sutherland will be paid a starting salary of $115,000, which will be increased to $117,500 upon a successful six-month evaluation. The salary will be reviewed annually in January.

Last week, Sutherland was in Bar Harbor for an informal meet-and-greet with the community and for a tour of town facilities. Sutherland was one of two finalists for the job. In all, 16 people applied for the job.

Sutherland has a master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in arts from the State University of New York Oswego.
