Supporting LGBT elders

ELLSWORTH — Enhance services to members of the elder LGBT community is the goal of a training planned at the Ellsworth Public Library on Nov. 28.

Each session is free and sponsored by multiple health-focused organizations in Hancock County including Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County and Sage Maine (Advocacy and Services for LGBT Elders).

The four-hour training will be offered twice, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and again from 1–5 p.m.

The two sessions are identical and address the basics about what LGBT means, stories of older LGBT adults and how their lives are affected by social attitudes and organizational structures that stigmatize and discriminate against them, event organizers said.

There will also be a focus on skills and policies that will enhance individual and organizational capacity to work more effectively with older adults in the LGBT community.

Pre-registration is requested. Contact Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County at 667-2531.
