Students persuasive in speech contest

MOUNT DESERT — A district speech contest was held in the Conners Emerson School library on April 28.

The topic for the contest, sponsored by Modern Woodman, was “Hunger in America.”

Pemetic eighth grader Piper Charron won first place, Trenton seventh grader Bella Ross took second and Tremont eighth grader Sophia Picard was third. Other participants, each of whom placed in previous school competitions, were Conners Emerson students Thomas Anh and Dezirae Zaman, as well as Alexandra Vitkin and Jasmine Deal (Mount Desert), Axel Eschholz (Pemetic), Emma Freudig (Tremont) and Kyle Collin (Trenton).
