Special town meeting needed

TREMONT — A date has yet to be set, but selectmen anticipate needing to call a special town meeting within the next two months.

Following a recommendation from the town’s attorney, voters will be asked to approve the Power Purchase Agreement for a new solar array at the former landfill before construction begins.

That’s the primary reason for the planned meeting, but selectmen have a punch list of other items that need voter approval.

One is an amendment to the town’s cemetery ordinance that would authorize selectmen to sell lots in the town’s cemeteries. Another is authorization for the Board of Selectmen to accept certain gifts and donations and allocate the funds within the town budget.

Changes to the town’s zoning ordinance having to do with cruise ships are also in the works, but have not had public hearings. They will likely not be included on the special town meeting warrant.
