BAR HARBOR — Ocean Properties is set to buy the building and grounds of Sonogee Rehabilitation & Living Center, local operations manager Eben Salvatore confirmed last week.
“We did secure a purchase and sale agreement” around the same time that the facility announced it would be closing, Salvatore said.
He stressed Ocean Properties agreed to purchase the property from North Country Associates only after the Lewiston-based company announced their intention to close the nursing home.
“We wanted to buy it because they were closing,” he said.
Salvator did not disclose the price. The land and building are both assessed for tax purposes at $4.5 million.
Ocean Properties owns the nearby Bar Harbor Regency at 123 Eden Street. “What we do with [the property] down the road is yet to be determined,” Salvatore said. “We’re not in any hurry to do anything. We want [Sonogee] to have as much time as needed for all the residents there [to relocate].”
