Slippery slope being stabilized

MOUNT DESERT — To prevent rocks from falling onto Peabody Drive (Route 3) near Thuya Gardens, the Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) has begun stabilizing a steep slope by removing some vegetation and rock.

Flaggers will regulate alternating one-way traffic through the 1,500-foot work zone between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The work, which began Monday, is expected to be completed by July 1.

DOT crews will return in the fall to finalize the slope stabilization.
