Skate park groundbreaking

Mount Desert Island Skatepark Association (MDISA) board members, volunteers and friends celebrated the groundbreaking of a permanent, concrete park at the Bar Harbor Athletic Fields Friday. From left, Town Council Chair Paul Paradis, David LaValle, MDISA board Chair Karen Svenson, Chamber of Commerce director Martha Searchfield, groundwork contractor Tim Whitney of Harold MacQuinn Inc., Katie Churchill and Wendy Copson-Higgins. The groundwork for the park is underway and will need to settle over a winter before concrete construction begins in the spring of 2017, Churchill said. “We look forward to seeing the kids – and the adults! – using the park next year after waiting so long for this moment.”
