MOUNT DESERT — Senator George Mitchell will speak about his newly published memoir, “Negotiator: Reflections on an American Life,” at the Northeast Harbor Library on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 5:30 p.m.

Mitchell was Maine’s U.S. senator for 15 years, spending six as the senate majority leader. He was voted the most respected member of the Senate for six consecutive years. After retiring from the Congress, he was appointed special advisor to the president of the United States and the secretary of state of economic initiatives in Ireland, as well as the chairman of the Sharm el-Sheikh International Fact-Finding Committee to examine the continuing crisis between the Israelis and Palestinians.

He shares stories about growing up in Maine, his years in the senate, working to bring peace to Northern Ireland and the Middle East and what he learned about the art of negotiation.
