ACADIA NAT’L PARK — Search and rescue teams resumed efforts Sunday, March 13, to locate Timothy Philpott, 50, of Ellsworth who disappeared in Acadia National Park in mid-January. Some parking lots in the national park were closed for this purpose.
Philpott was first reported missing after his car was discovered by rangers in the Parkman Mountain Parking Lot ,the keys in it, off Route 198 during a snowstorm on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
On Thursday, Jan. 14, rangers performed what is called a “hasty” search along area trails and carriage roads, but did not locate the missing man. The next day a Maine Forest Service helicopter was called in and spent several hours circling over the search area. The search was suspended Friday, Jan. 15 as a snowstorm moved into the area.
