BAR HARBOR — An initial meeting about a proposed aquaculture operation in Blue Hill Bay south of Old House Cove will take place in the Bar Harbor Municipal Building on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.
The “scoping session” is a chance for the applicant, Matt Gerald of Western Bay Oyster Company, to familiarize the public with the proposal and answer questions. It is not a public hearing.
The Maine Department of Marine Resources manages a program of aquaculture leases in state waters. A scoping session is a required step before a formal lease application may be submitted.
The proposed lease would replace the 3.32-acre experimental lease, referred to as BHB OCHx, currently located on the site.
